The Hope Based on Reality. Prepare to Share.

There’s one page in my Confirmation Bible that shows more wear than any other. It’s the page I turned to in college, especially my Freshman year, every time our Holy Faith was attacked. 1 Corinthians 1:25 “…the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” I would read it and say, “Amen.” But it was not enough for me to take my stand without seeing how God’s wisdom was wiser. Especially as I watched my classmates treat human foolishness as wisdom. I needed to be equipped to help them see God’s true wisdom. God used this to lead me to study to be a pastor.

Peter encourages us, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…”. 1 Peter 3:15 “To give the reason” means sharing the sound basis for our hope in Christ. This is what we’ll explore together this year at the WELS Labor Day Retreat. Together we’ll explore the sound basis of our hope, so God can use us to show people our hope is not merely emotional personal wishful thinking. It’s based on reality.
